Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Athens is a General Ophthalmology practice providing medical and surgical eye care to Athens and to the entire southeastern Ohio region. The practice was established in 1971 and has been staffed by Board Certified Ophthalmologists since its opening. We provide evaluation and treatment for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and many other eye diseases. Cataract surgery is a particular area of interest. We aim to provide care in a comfortable and conscientious manner utilizing up-to-date modalities and skills.

Doctors and Staff
Craig H. Dodrill, MD
Dr. Dodrill is a native of Ohio. He grew up in Ashville and attended Miami University where he earned a B.A. in Chemistry. He then earned the M.D. degree from the Northeast Ohio Medical University. His internship was served at Akron General Medical Center and he completed residency in Ophthalmology at Summa Health Systems in Akron. Dr. Dodrill is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Dodrill loves southeastern Ohio and he particularly enjoys being outdoors. He actively participates in running and all kinds of biking. He spends a great deal of time with his family and is very involved with youth sports. In any remaining free minutes, he loves to unwind reading.
Danielle C. Ortman, MD
Dr. Danielle Ortman was born in Columbus Ohio and made Athens her home in 2016 after finishing Ophthalmology residency. She earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and completed her medical degree in Memphis at University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in 2012. She completed her internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, and completed her Ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University. Dr. Ortman is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Levi E. Ridgeway, OD
Dr. Ridgeway was born in the small town of Hanoverton, Ohio. He went on to receive his B.A. in Chemistry at Case Western Reserve University and his Doctorate of Optometry at Indiana University. Dr. Ridgeway did additional training in ocular disease at the Baltimore VA Medical Center and John Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. He is certified through the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Ridgeway is new to the southern Ohio area, but excited to start his career here at Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Athens. In his free time, Dr. Ridgeway likes to try all new kinds of foods and drinks, reading, hiking and traveling.
Staff
The staff at Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Athens has always been a key ingredient in the practice. Some staff members have been happily employed for decades. They are always vested in treating patients with compassion and equality. We are thankful to have such a caring staff!

Our office strives to maintain acceptance of as many insurance policies as possible. However, given the complex state of today’s health care, please feel free to contact our office prior to your appointment in order to confirm your coverage.
